2026 has been a big year for Hollywood, as big-budget sequels, new superhero films and some very ambitious original ideas all hit theaters and streaming platforms. No matter which type of film buff you are, there’s been something for everyone this year, from the Sci-Fi rescue mission to a Dark Ages Robin Hood, Star Wars is back on screen and Christopher Nolan grapples with Greek mythology – you have it all. Following are the top 10 Hollywood Movies 2026 as per the power of the cast, box office impact and buzz of the movie created by the audience. For each one there is a short description of the plot, the actors and the reception.
1. Project Hail Mary
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, this sci-fi drama stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a school teacher who wakes up on a spaceship light-years away from Earth with no memory of how he got there. As his memory slowly comes back, he realizes he is on a mission to save the planet from a mysterious substance that is making the sun die out. Sandra Hsu also stars in the film. The film has enjoyed moderate box-office and was good for its science-oriented plot, which it claimed was both easily digestible and heart-wrenching. The challenge of figuring out tricky space problems was accentuated by Ryan Gosling having to deal with his own lapse of memory, an area in which critics praised his efforts. A solid performance for an original sci-fi movie that isn’t part of a franchise, the film has already grossed more than $683 million worldwide.
2. Apex
Charlize Theron stars as a woman who goes into the Australian bush following a personal tragedy to test herself, only to discover herself in the face of a deadly predator in a deadly game. Taron Egerton stars as the villain, while Eric Bana also stars in the movie. It is a film directed by an unknown director and is about 95 minutes in length.
The reviews were divided, but were mostly good. Charlize Theron’s acting was well-received as she carried out most of the stunts herself. The Australian settings were also commended for bringing a raw, real sense to the survival story. The story was somewhat predictable in some reviews and was typical of a survival horror film, but for most, it was the acting of Theron that kept them interested. The movie has a ratings score of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
3. The Devil Wears Prada 2
This sequel sees Meryl Streep again as Miranda Priestley, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt are also reprising their roles, nearly 20 years after the original. But Stanley Tucci is back, as is Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s new husband and Simone Ashley as new assistant for Runway Magazine. The story takes place in a world where print media is in decline and where digital influence has taken over, and Miranda is now struggling to stay relevant in a digital world.
The reception was split when the film was released on May 1, 2026. For some, reuniting the original cast was a thrill, and for others, it was too much of a spoiler to say that Miranda was softened in the sequel and turned into more of a corporate training video than the ferocious editor we know. It did decent business as a result of the nostalgia factor but it had already grossed about $685 million worldwide. It’s an A-rated comedy-drama.
4. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
The former Disney+ series, starring Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin and his little green friend Grogu, continues in this big screen adaptation, directed by Jon Favreau. Sigourney Weaver plays Colonel Ward, an Adelphi Ranger in the New Republic, and Jeremy Allen White is Rotta the Hutt, who is Jabba the Hutt’s son. This takes place after the fall of the Empire, with various warlords roaming the galaxy.
The movie came out on May 22, 2026, and it has collected about $315 million worldwide. Those who had followed the series on television were pleased to see the characters on the big screen and the IMAX release brought in those who wanted the full theater experience. The movie is about mentoring and succession – and that’s a good fit for the left-behind series. It is rated UA-16+.

5. He-Man and The Masters of The Universe
The movie is a fantasy-action about the popular 1980s series of cartoons and toys. The characters in the story are Prince Adam and He-Man, who is his alter-ego, and they are protecting Eternia from the evil Skeletor. The cast and director were still to be confirmed closer to the release, but the movie will be released on the 5th of June 2026. It’s supposed to be a large, highly animated adventure with some pretty colourful graphics, bringing Eternia to new life for a new generation.
The film is rated UA-16+ and is one of the more awaited fantasy films of the year, particularly for kids who used to enjoy the original animated series. The marketing has been on the sword and sorcery side, and it is hoped that it could do for He-Man what recent films have done for other 80s properties.
6. Avatar: Fire and Ash
The sequel of James Cameron’s third Avatar movie takes up the tale of the Sully family, who consist of Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri. In fact, the movie was supposed to be released theatrically on Dec 19, 2025, but it will be available for streaming on JioHotstar in India on Jun 24, 2026. It’s a journey to new lands on Pandora, featuring new clans and conflicts.
Already the movie has grossed more than $1.48 billion theatrically worldwide, and is one of the highest-grossing films of this generation. The India OTT launch is likely to attract a new cluster of audiences who couldn’t watch it at theatres or wish to watch it again at home. It is rated UA-16+ and has a runtime of more than 3 hours, making it suitable for viewing at home where time isn’t an issue.
7. Supergirl
DC Studios has made Supergirl available on the big screen, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Jason Momoa as Lobo, Matthias Schoenaerts as the evil Krem and David Corenswet as the appearance of Superman. When one of her friends is attacked, Kara embarks on an interstellar voyage of vengeance and justice with an unlikely ally.
The film can be released on June 26, 2026 and will be a part of the new DC Universe plan by writer-director James Gunn. Some reviews have been favourable and others less so, with praise for Milly Alcock’s acting and Jason Momoa’s Lobo persona, and others commenting that it wasn’t as visually interesting and lacked new ideas in the superhero genre. It is rated PG-13 and is approximately 108 minutes in length.
8. The Death of Robin Hood
This dark and gritty re-imagining of Robin Hood features Hugh Jackman as an older, broken Robin Hood. He battles a mysterious woman (Jodie Comer) and comes close to dying but she saves him and plays Little John. It is directed by Michael Sarnoski and follows in the footsteps of Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. It’s a tale of one man’s attempt to escape his violent past and deal with the myth that has evolved around him.
The movie is rated A for strong bloody violence, and runs for 2 hours and 3 minutes. It was released on July 3, 2026. It’s been compared with another Hugh Jackman film about an old man, Logan, and though it claims to be magnificently shot, and Jackman is great, it was described as too slow in the second half by some. It’s being distributed by A24, which it’s generally a more artistic and less mainstream approach to cinema.
9. The Odyssey
The epic retelling of the classic Greek tale is directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matt Damon as Odysseus. The vast cast also features Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron. The movie is about Odysseus, who struggles to return home from the Trojan War, encountering various creatures such as the Cyclops and the Sirens.
The film was released worldwide on July 17, 2026 and opened with $264.1 million. Already, it is Nolan’s largest worldwide opening, topping The Dark Knight Rises. The movie is rated A, and has been released in IMAX and other high-end formats, making it a hit in the box office. It has received mostly favorable reviews and some have named it one of Nolan’s best.
10. Desire
This is a Netflix Original film released on July 17, 2026, which is the same day as The Odyssey, and is a Mexican thriller. Featuring Ludwika Paleta as married lawyer Lucero, it appears she’s having it all until she enters into a perilous affair with her daughter’s swimming coach, Oscar Casas. It becomes more complicated when her daughter falls for the same guy. Jose Maria Yazpik plays Lucero’s husband.
The movie was released in theaters in May 2026, debuting in Mexico and Spain followed by a worldwide release by Netflix in July 2026. It has been directed by Teresa Simone in her first feature film and it is rated A. It’s the tale of obsession and of people taking risks because it feels like something’s missing in their lives, even though they appear to have it all.
